Halfway down U.S. 1 from the Florida mainland is the City of Marathon, noted for its family atmosphere. Not to be outdone by other Keys locations, Marathon is home to five-star restaurants, tiki bars, small diners and casual restaurants suitable for family dining.
Just north of the famous Seven Mile Bridge, made famous in the movie “True Lies,” Marathon, too, is noted for its seafood. The freshest fish and seafood are so readily available that no eatery worth its name would not feature a cuisine replete with dishes featuring the underwater delights.
Oceanside or Bayside, there are eateries appealing to every taste – many open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Breakfast pastries, freshly prepared daily, are flaky and tasty. Tropical fruits are popular with adults and children alike.
Many resorts have tiki bars or huts as well, where you can get sandwiches and soft drinks as well as cocktails while looking out at the waters surrounding Marathon. The kids can even find pizza parlors for their favorite munchies.
From Japanese to Mexican to Cuban to Italian to American traditional, you’ll find them all in Marathon – plus a wide selection of restaurants specializing in the seafood that all Keys residents and visitors find so palate-pleasing. The atmosphere may be casual in most Marathon restaurants, but the food is sensational. So bring your appetite and come on down!
